The Cruz Family
Kathy Cruz has
her hands full. As well as being a volunteer at the Humane
Society of Greater Kansas City, she’s also a mother
of five. Ranging from ages 10 to 17, Jesse,
Katie, Olivia, George and Rosa all love to volunteer just as much as Kathy
does.
It all began when Kathy’s daughter Katie needed
to volunteer for Girl Scout’s.
That was about two years ago, and the Cruz family has kept up with it ever since.
Olivia began volunteering in April, while Rosa and George joined in around May.
“We just love it here,” said
Kathy. “They just adore playing
with the cats and kittens.”
Even today, the Girls Scout’s
has had a positive effect on their time at the shelter. In
celebration of the Girl Scout’s 95th birthday, Katie
and Olivia have decided to buy 95 items to donate to the shelter.
These items include toys, food and other items from the shelter’s
wish list.
The six volunteers have been coming
on Wednesday afternoons since the school year began, which
was easy planning for Kathy considering that she home-schools
her children. They help with newspapers and play with the cats,
usually staying for about two hours.
According to Kathy, they
have been looking forward to helping with satellite adoption
clinics as well, but just haven’t found a date that works
with their schedule yet.
The Cruz dwelling is home to three
dogs, Chili, Scarlet and Tara. Chili is a Shar Pei mix, Scarlet
is a Poodle mix and Tara is a Boston Terrier.

Can You Spare a Square?
This is a slow time for in-kind
donations and we are in a TP crunch. As you know, there aren't
many things worse than running out of toilet paper!
There are hundreds of people that
come through the shelter each week to use the clinic, volunteer
and visit the shelter pets.
Toilet paper is just one of the
needed items on the Sit Up and Beg Wish
List. Download your
copy of the Wish List today from the website and organize
a collection drive of your own!

The Pet Reunion is truly the best
day of the year at the HSGKC! Enjoy the Pet Costume Contest

up.

was another huge success! So far we've sent home Ashley,
Sebastian, Sheldon, Simon, Sydney, Bart, and Willie. Brody is
scheduled to go home on Saturday. We also raised over $1500 in
donations and shirt sales. Much thanks to all of our wonderful
volunteers who helped throughout the weekend to make this
possible!
