Kandy & Tandy
Inspired Her
Glendra Riley came to the Humane Society
of Greater Kansas City to adopt a cat in November of last year.
After careful consideration she adopted Kandy
and Tandy. According
to Glendra she wanted to adopt two cats so that they could
keep each other company. “They
provide us with so much entertainment,” Glendra said. She
loves these cats so much she wishes she had more, “If I
could talk my husband into it I would have three.”
Once she adopted her cats she felt inspired
to do more to help the cats she was not able to adopt and decided
to become a volunteer. “I
felt sorry for them and I just wanted to do something for them,” Glendra
said.
According to Glendra, she had some extra
time during the day and wanted to help. “I wanted to find something to do,
and it makes me feel good, it gives me pleasure to give something
back to the community,” Glendra said.
Glendra volunteers once a week at the shelter.
She helps out by filing and playing with cats. According to
Glendra, volunteering is very fulfilling and something everyone
should want to do as a way to give back to his or her community.
She sums up her feelings about the shelter by saying, “I
just enjoy being there, I enjoy the cats and the people.”

Bowling
Success
Bowling for
Bones raised $2,632.08 on
May 5 at Mission Bowl! Several Humane Society volunteers organized
the first-ever bowling event for the animals to raise funds
to purchase a dental machine.
The dental machine will be utilized in the clinic for shelter
animals that come to us with teeth issues. Fancy,
the Akita, will be one of the first ones to benefit from the
new purchase!
Special thanks to
everyone who participated in Bowling for Bones this year. Extra
special thanks to the following volunteers who coordinated the
event during their spare time: Christine
Salyer, Coleen Kent, Lori Holle, Marcia Wood, Stacy Reeves, Laura
Marshment and Rachel Downtain. |

Landscaping
Makeover
Volunteer Ricky
Setticase is leading the charge in developing landscaping
plans to help make the outside of the Humane Society welcoming
to visitors and provide much needed shade for the dogs (and
volunteers) in the dog yards. Plans
include tree, shrub and flower plantings that will brighten up our little corner of
Wyandotte County.
To implement
this big project we need financial and in-kind donations. We estimate the first phase
of the landscaping project costing approximately $1,000.
If you would like to donate funds
to help with this project let either Robin or Ricky know.
If you have any contacts in the community that could result in
donations of trees, shrubs and/or flowers, let us know!
